Perception Versus Reality The Film A Beautiful Mind
Perception versus reality. What is the difference between them? Have you ever felt so confident in something that you could only see it from your point of view, or your perception? In the film A Beautiful Mind, a young mathematician, John Nash, had traveled to Princeton University to attended there as a graduate student. While he was there he made several friends, the first being his roommate Charles, who later becomes his best friend, and a few other math graduate students, Martin, Sol, Ainsley, and Bender. After classes, they would all hang out together and discuss their mathematical theories amongst each other as friends do. As you will see, Nash was so confident in his own perception that it became reality to him. While gathering information, she came to the realization that something just wasnââ¬â¢t right. She then confronted him with the information that she had collected and convinced him that he had been hallucinating. Nash had been diagnosed with schizophrenia and along with that came the paranoia. This was an interesting turn of events as it was also discovered that his best friend Charles, his niece Marcee, along with Parcher were not real but only products of his mind. The undercover work he said he was doing was also only a delusion in his mind. Nash was eventually sent home with medication for his illness but a short while later he quit taking it which resulted in his hallucinations coming back. To prevent him from going back to the psychiatric hospital, Alicia and he began working together to try and solve his schizophrenia without the medication. As Nash grew older, with the help of Alicia, he eventually learned that by ignoring the fictit ious people he was seeing he could control his illness and live a somewhat productive life. Confucianism And Legalism - 1556 Words
The law in which the Qin constructed was harsh and unjust. They abolished the Zhou-ist feudal system, replacing it with controlled local administration. The term in which this practice is called is Legalism; the belief in which people are born with evil tendencies. The government demanded total subordination of the people to the ruler. Although there is no commonly recognized founder, there is one person who is credited for the establishment of Legalism: Shang Yang, an important statesman during the Warring States Period for the Qin. ââ¬Å"The policies and measures initiated by Shang Yang were all designed to strengthen the state at the expense of the common people and the nobility, to subjugate the society under state domination.â⬠Throughâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦This system was to keep everyone in their place and avoid rebellions and uprisings. There were reports of subordination put into place once every three months, summaries every six, and permanent records every tw elve. There was a doctrine fixed into law, called the Six Parasites. This is however a textual problem, there are actually sixteen. These ââ¬Å"parasitesâ⬠were rites, music, odes, history, cultivation, goodness, filial devotion, brotherly love, sincerity, trustworthiness, uprightness, integrity, humaneness, rightness, criticism of army, and lastly being ashamed of fighting. To violate any of these laws against the ââ¬Å"sixâ⬠was subject to punishment. Marketing â⬠Packaging of Raisins Free Essays
Tiffany Eu, 7605325435 Packaging Assignment ââ¬â Sun-Maid Raisins There are not many brands of raisins that are found on a shelf of a typical supermarket but compared to its competitors, like Newmanââ¬â¢s Own Raisins and Champion Raisin, the Sun-Maid raisins packaging stands out. Since sun-maid raisins come in many different packaging sizes and forms, I will focus on their 15-ounce red box packaging. Sun-maid raisins stand out due to many factors like its visibility, the information given on the packaging, emotional appeal to its consumers and the workability of the packaging. We will write a custom essay sample on Marketing ââ¬â Packaging of Raisins or any similar topic only for you Order Now At first glance, a consumer may see three main things on the box front: sun-maidââ¬â¢s well-known logo, the word ââ¬Å"sun-maidâ⬠and the word ââ¬Å"raisinsâ⬠in the middle of a picture of fresh grapes and raisins. Sun-maidââ¬â¢s large yellow logo of the woman holding grapes, modeled after Lorraine Collett Petersen, has been the logo for sun-maid since 1915, three years after the brand was started. Most of its consumers worldwide are familiar with this logo and it is positioned at the top of the box where it is very visible against the red background. For those consumers who are not familiar with the brand logo, the brand name ââ¬Å"sun-maidâ⬠is states in large yellow font across the center of the box. The word ââ¬Å"raisinsâ⬠is also stated near the bottom of the box among a picture of fresh grapes and raisins to attract consumers who may be interested in buying raisins. Another smaller logo that was introduced recently, and is probably only temporary, saying ââ¬Å"healthy food awardâ⬠and ââ¬Å"fitnessâ⬠informs consumers that sun-maid raisins carries a ââ¬Å"Fitness Healthy Food Awardâ⬠assessed by experts on the ââ¬Å"Fitnessâ⬠magazine. This logo is supported by additional information about the award, formatted as a paragraph on the back of the box, and integrates methods of consuming these raisins into the paragraph. They suggested to ââ¬Å"sprinkle raisins on cereals, yogurts, salads or snack right out of the package. On the front of the box, it also states ââ¬Å"since 1912â⬠in smaller font below their logo in order to reassure its consumers of its reliability since it has been established for so long. On the sides of the box, sun-maid informs their consumers about their nutritional facts in a able and includes a brief summary of its benefits on the other side, such as ââ¬Å"100% naturalâ⬠, ââ¬Å"no fatâ⬠, ââ¬Å"no preservativesâ⬠and ââ¬Å"naturally sweet and have no added sugarâ⬠. Although not much information is needed for eating raisins, sun-maid provides instructions on how to use their resealable bag inside the box on a reusable sticker that is used to reseal the bag of raisin s. Furthermore, the packaging attracts consumers by evoking positive feelings, such as happiness. The bright colours, yellow and red, are cheerful colours. Yellow reminds us of the bright sun which we associate with happiness and nature while red reminds us of the deep red/purple colour of the grapes from which the raisins are made. There is also a feeling of nature and simplicity from the traditional look of the girl holding a basket of grapes in their logo and the feel of the cardboard box as opposed to a modern looking plastic container. The feeling of nature may also induce the idea of healthiness which will attract consumers to sun-maid raisins. Other than just appealing to the consumers by its looks, sun-maidââ¬â¢s packaging is also successful in the way that the shape of the packaging is also very functional. The rectangular shape of the box allows for easy storage and shipment while the tall height of the box maximized the packaging front that consumers see as they pass by it on a shelf. The box is also useful for protecting the raisins from being squished and the sealed plastic bag on the inside keeps the raisins fresh and easy to store after opening (since the bag is resealable simply with a small sticker that they provide). This larger packaging is more environmentally friendly as compared to their smaller individual packs but sun-maid does not specify if they use recycled cardboard for their boxes and the plastic bag inside a cardboard box is a little redundant in terms of being environmentally friendly. The 15-ounce packaging of sun-maid raisin is successful for the many reasons states above. Shopping in a supermarket, I would, personally, choose sun-maid over its competitors subconsciously because of its packaging and perhaps also because it is a well-know and trusted brand. The Fall Of The House Of Usher Essays (1031 words) -
The Fall Of The House Of Usher Death is defined as, The termination or extinction of something. Edgar Allen Poe uses this description in The Fall of the House of Usher in different ways. Poe's intention when writing The Fall of the House of Usher was not to present a moral, lesson, or truth to the reader; he was simply trying to bring forth a sense of terror to the reader. Poe's mind works this way, and critics believe this statement, especially when related to this story. Poe is grouped with other writers in the Romantic period. Writers of this period focused on life, emotions, and the existence of the human race. Although Poe's work has many characteristics of Romanticism, The Fall of the House of Usher, falls into the Gothic category. It is usually admired for its 'atmosphere' and for its exquisitely artificial manipulation of Gothic claptrap and decor. Bringing forth the symbolism of death is a major part of this writing. All of the characters in The Fall of the House of Usher are linked to death; by physical objects or by other people. There are no symbols of absolute good. The physical aspect of the House of Usher symbolizes death, in the chain of events, during the story. Even Poe's description of the house has deadly characteristics. Poe describes the house as having eye-like windows and being covered by minute fungi?hanging in a fine tangled web-work from the eaves; a barely perceptible fissure, which, extending from the roof of the building in front, made its way down the wall in a zigzag direction, until it became lost in the sullen waters of the tarn. This fissure is presented to the reader, early in the story, to represent that Roderick's love for his twin sister, Madeline, was dying, because she was suffering from a mysterious malady, or disease, that baffled her doctors. This caused Roderick to be emotionally and physically depressed, and was described as a madman at this point. He was convinced that his whole surroundings, the stones of the house, the fungi, the water in the tarn, the very reflected image of the whole, was woven into a physic al oneness with the family, condensed, as it were, into one atmosphere-the special atmosphere in which alone the Ushers could live. And it was this atmosphere which had molded the destinies of his family. Roderick invites a friend to the House of Usher to visit and support him during this crisis. The narrator is involved in all of Roderick's emotions and problems during the course of the story. He sees Roderick's compassion for his sister during her illness. After Madeline dies he assists Roderick in the placement of her body in a steal coffin in a vault under the house. The reason for such protection of Madeline's body was the fear of her doctors. They were so fascinated by the strangeness of her disease that Roderick feared that they would steal her body for pathologic reasons. Poe uses this whole scenario to show that Roderick really cared for his sister. It was as though they were one being, relying on each other for life; -a brother, his twin sister, and their incredibly ancient house all sharing a single soul and meeting one common dissolution at the same moment. Once Madeline died, Roderick had lost part of himself. Madeline was his connection in the human realm. He knew that his love would eventually kill her, and it did. They loved without any resistance and eventually dragged each other to death. For the Holy Ghost says you must not be as one thing with another being. Each must abide by itself, and correspond only within certain limits. In the end, Roderick's guest finally expresses that Roderick is truly a madman. The purpose for this is that Madeline was alive when they sealed her in the coffin. Usher knew that he had done this many days before, Long-long-long-many minutes, many hours, many days, have I heard it-yet I dared not-oh, pity me, miserable wretch that I am!-I dared not-I dared not speak! We have put her living in the tomb! After Usher finally speaks about what he knew, a figure of Madeline appears to them, ?but then without those doors there

Strategies for writing an ideal teacher resume -TheJobNetwork
Strategies for writing an ideal teacher resume -TheJobNetwork If youââ¬â¢re a teacher (or working on becoming one), you know that by the time you complete your degree(s), your training courses, and any standardized exams your state throws your way, the job search can feel like yet another daunting process. Or maybe youââ¬â¢re further along in your career and youââ¬â¢re ready for a scenery change, or a subject change. Whatever the case may be, your resume should be a painless part of the process. Letââ¬â¢s look at some strategies you can use as you craft your own teaching resume. Do a little pre-resume brainstorming. Before you start cranking away, here are some resume basics to consider before you even start working on your resume. Ask yourself:Who is going to be reading this? Will it be another educator or administrator, or a layperson? This can help you determine how much jargon or career shorthand you can use. What do I want to emphasize most about myself and my career? What are the assets that make you the most valuable hire? What is my goal with this resume? Are you looking to find your first job in the field, change jobs, or move up?Thinking about these things ahead of time helps you refine your resume before youââ¬â¢ve even begun. Youââ¬â¢ve got ideas. Now you just need some structure for themâ⬠¦Open strong with a headline, objective, or summary. At the top of your resume will be your contact info, of course (donââ¬â¢t be that guy or gal who thinks that the cover email is enough contact info for this digital day and age), but after that is your opening statement. You could just dive right into the details of your resume, but think about it- this is a chance to really introduce yourself to the reader, and set the narrative for the rest of your resume. Chances are, whoever is reading your resume will also be reading a pile of resumes from other people who may be similarly qualified for the job. So you want to take every edge you can get, including a sentence or two to help set you apart from thos e others.Headlines are exactly what they sound like: a brief, bold one-liner about who you are. A headline is brief, and it doesnââ¬â¢t contain your life story, but it does tell the reader who theyââ¬â¢re about to meet in the rest of the resume. Here are some examples:Columbus School District Teacher of the Yearà Seasoned Educator and Expert Curriculum Builderà Creative, Metrics-Focused Elementary School Educator Objective statements are a couple of brief sentences letting the reader know your intent. The reader already knows you want a job, so you donââ¬â¢t need to be that explicit. The objective can be more about your short-term goals with this position. Are you looking to change your career? Start your career? Level up with a leadership role? The objective helps the reader see what youââ¬â¢re angling for, besides an interview. Here are some examples:Educator with 10 years of experience seeking an administrative role.Looking for a position as a special-needs teache r at Washington Academy, bringing a creative, high-energy approach to student outcomes.Seeking a position as a math teacher focusing on technology integration and curriculum best practices to improve student achievement.Summary statements are more of a brief collection of highlights that you want to emphasize about yourself. Resume summaries are sometimes called ââ¬Å"qualifications summariesâ⬠or ââ¬Å"competencies.â⬠Here, you call out the skills and accomplishments that you want the reader to focus on. For example:Motivated, energetic teacher who values diversity and creativity in the classroomResults-focused leader with a record of improving student test scores year-over-year15 years of curriculum-building experience, and development of classroom activities in accordance with state standards and best practicesAgain, not the life story, but a bit of a sneak preview for the reader. You should be prepared to back up your intro statements with more detailed skills or exp erience bullets later in the resume.Make your experience work for you.As a teacher, youââ¬â¢ve got a lot of things already working for you on your resume: your education and certifications, which are essential elements. Those are concrete points that you donââ¬â¢t really need to finesse or wordsmith- they are what they are. You should highlight your education and credentials in a brief section near the top of the resume. After that, you can start being a little more creative with your resume structure. If you already have a ton of classroom experience, then you can go the traditional route and put your work experience next, followed by skills. If youââ¬â¢re a recent grad or a career changer, and donââ¬â¢t yet have tons of experience, consider going with a more skills-heavy format. This puts your skills and general qualifications front and center, giving it higher priority over the ââ¬Å"experienceâ⬠section. And even if you feel like you donââ¬â¢t have a lot of ex perience (yet), you do have things you can use to flesh out that experience section. Volunteer work, club or professional association activities, or extracurricular teaching work youââ¬â¢ve done can also be used here. That community writing seminar you ran at the senior center last year? Include it. Your three recent summers as a camp counselor working with elementary age students while you completed your undergrad work? Include it, if it applies to the teaching job youââ¬â¢re seeking. (If youââ¬â¢re seeking an early childhood education job, great- if youââ¬â¢re looking to teach calculus to seniors, maybe not as relevant). You can be creative here to fill in gaps.As youââ¬â¢re building your experience section, donââ¬â¢t forget to list accomplishments, not duties. The person reading the resume is more interested in what youââ¬â¢ve achieved in your career so far, not necessarily what your 10 daily duties were in your last job. Itââ¬â¢s important to highlight on ly the most relevant experience points, related to the job youââ¬â¢re seeking.Be selective about your skills.Sure, you may have the highest Candy Crush score in the county, or play the harmonica intro to ââ¬Å"Piano Manâ⬠so beautifully itââ¬â¢d make Billy Joel himself cry. Those are great skills to have. But they may not work on your resume. Your skills section, like the rest of your resume, should be laser-focused on the job at hand. These six skill sets are among the top skills for teachers, so you should concentrate on these areas:Communication skills. Teachers communicate all the time- they work directly with students, other teachers, administrators, staff, and parents on a regular basis. Make sure you emphasize your strengths when it comes to writing, speaking, presenting, and- perhaps most importantly- listening.Problem solving skills. Teachers are problem-solvers, and help others solve them as well. You can provide examples of how you solve conflicts, how you can adapt lesson plans in real time, and how you approach those unexpected moments in any classroom.Organizational skills. Hiring managers will be interested to know how you juggle a teacherââ¬â¢s many tasks (classroom teaching, meetings, grading, lesson planning, etc.). Your time management skills are crucial, so definitely emphasize those on your resume.Patience. Whether youââ¬â¢re teaching a classroom of six-year-olds or sixty-year-olds, one of the key characteristics of an educator is patience, and the ability to work with any student to help them learn and achieve. Not everyone has patience, so this is a good skill to include on your resume.People skills. Similarly, general people skills are an asset on your resume. The reader will want to know you can work with others in a productive way, especially students. But this applies to others as well, because teachers are very much team players, interacting with their colleagues and administrators every day as well.Technological s kills. We live in an ever-more-digital world, and teachers who can help bring technology into the classroom productively can be major assets for a school. Everything You Need to Know About Bleach
Everything You Need to Know About Bleach Bleach is the common name for a solution of 2.5%à sodium hypochlorite in water. Its also called chlorine bleach or liquid bleach. Another type of bleach is oxygen-based or peroxide bleach. While you may know bleach is used to disinfect and remove stains, there is more to know about this everyday chemical to use it safely and effectively. Here are some important facts about this solution. Useful Bleach Facts Bleach has a shelf life and expiration date. On average, a container of unopened bleach loses 20% of its effectiveness each year. Once opened, bleach starts to lose a significant amount of its power after 6 months.Chlorine bleach is more effective as a disinfectant when its diluted rather than if its used at full strength. A typically recommended dilution is 1 part bleach to 9 parts water.A higher percentage of bleach is needed if a large quantity of organic material (e.g., blood, protein) is present, as these materials react with bleach and tend to neutralize it.If you add sodium hypochlorite bleach to whiten laundry or remove stains, its better to add it after the wash cycle has already filled with water and started agitation. If you add bleach together with detergent, you risk diminishing the effectiveness of enzyme-based stain removers and the detergent. On the other hand, oxygen-based bleach is best added to warm or hot water before clothes are added. Oxygen-based bleaches are g enerally color-safe and will preserve whiteness, but will not remove color. Sodium hypochlorite bleach does whiten fabrics ââ¬â¹but is not safe for all materials. Bleach reacts with several other chemicals to release toxic vapors. Its generally inadvisable to mix bleach with other cleaners. In particular, avoid mixing bleach with acetone, alcohol, vinegarà or other acids, or ammonia.Bleach can corrode metal, so if you clean or disinfect a metal surface with bleach, its important to wipe it down with water or alcohol afterward.Although its commonly believed drinking bleach can lead to a negative blood or urine test for drug use, this is untrue. While chlorine bleach is a powerful disinfectant, peroxide bleach is not suitable for this purpose. Chlorine bleach disinfects because it is an oxidizer, capable of disrupting microbial cells. Oxidation is also how chlorine bleach removes color. Sodium hypochlorite breaks bonds in the chromophore or colored portion of a molecule, rendering it colorless. Reducing bleaches also exist, which also change chemical bonds and alter how a molecule absorbs light.Chlorine bleach was first used to disinfect water in 1895 forà New York Citys Croton Reservoir. Household bleach may be made using water, caustic soda, and chlorine. The process of electrolysis is used to produce chlorine and caustic soda by running an electric current through a solution of table salt (sodium chloride) in water. Caustic soda and chlorine react to form sodium hypochlorite. All that is needed is to bubble chlorine gas through caustic soda solution. Since chlorine gas is toxic, bleach is not a chemical one should make at home.Although the odor of chlorine is apparent in bleach, when bleach is used, the chemical reaction tends to produce salt water and not chlorine gas.Although the toxic chemical dioxin has been known to occur in bleaching products using in the wood pulp and paper industry, household bleach is free from dioxin because gaseous chlorine must be present for dioxin to form.
